My name is Marwan Nsouli, and I’m a film photographer obsessed with a very specific ritual.

Before every trip, I spend hours researching which film stock to bring for a particular place. Will Ektar’s saturation make the reds of Joshua Tree pop, or push them too far? Can Portra’s latitude handle bright snow against dark evergreen at Mount Rainier? How will CineStill 800T render the cozy interiors of an Alaskan cabin in the winter?

I research the emulsion. I study the landscape. And then, camera in hand, I get to spend the whole trip imagining how each frame will turn out. I carry a private hypothesis in my head, one I won’t get to test until the roll is developed. That gap between prediction and result, between what I imagined and what the film actually saw, is the part I love most about analog photography and something no digital sensor can replicate.

This website is where I turn my practice into a guide. It’s a growing collection of film stock reviews interwoven with stories from the road and galleries from locations I’ve personally photographed. Each article is built around how a specific film performed in a real-world environment, with sample images and observations from the field.
